Uncovering America's Forgotten Colony:
The New Netherland Project
(DVD) - $20
A small group of scholars led by Director Charles Gehring have been uncovering the real truth about the Dutch presence in Albany and NYC from 1609 -1664. Since 1975 they have been painstakingly translating 12,000 ancient Dutch documents and revealing to the world a story that has remained untold for far too long. The story of the Dutch colonies in Fort Orange and New Amsterdam is one of history’s best kept secrets. While the New Netherland Project has uncovered the truth about these early Dutch and how they introduced the original “melting pot” of different cultures to the Hudson Valley, very few people actually know the story of the Dutch in America. “Uncovering America’s Forgotten Colony” tells the tale of the New Netherland Project and the early Dutch settlements of Fort Orange (Albany) and New Amsterdam (NYC). Knowledge of our past is an important element of guiding our future.
